3 November 2000
The Department of Public Enterprises has received a report from international railway consultants, Halcrow. The purpose of appointing Halcrow was to obtain recommendations for an integrated suite of improvement measures, which would ensure that Spoornet can become a profitable and sustainable entity with the ability to be self-funding. The findings and recommendations of this report have already been presented to Spoornet Management and to the Spoornet Divisional Board.
This morning, the report was presented to Organised Labour within Spoornet.
A consultation process is being initiated within the ambit of the National Framework Agreement with the objective of enabling government to arrive at a final decision on these recommendations.
