THE ACCIDENT INVOLVING SINGAPORE AIRLINES FLIGHT SQ006 AT CHIANG KAI-SHEK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

It is with much regret that reports were received regarding the accident involving Singapore Airlines flight SQ006 at Chiang Kai-shek International Airport in Taiwan on October 31, 2000. The Department extends its condolences to the next-of-kin of those involved in this incident.

According to present information (at 10:00 on November 1, 2000) there was one South African citizen on board the flight. He is Mr Lin Ming-liang, the Vice President of the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce in South Africa. Reports indicate that Mr Lin has sustained severe injuries and has been hospitalised at the Chang-kang Hospital in Linkou, near the airport.
