CHILDREN'S FESTIVAL ON NATIONAL CHILDREN'S DAY

The National Programme of Action for Children (NPA), located in the Presidency, invites all parents and children to an all-day Children's Festival at Zoo Lake in Johannesburg on National Children's Day, Saturday November 4th. Admission to the festival is free and it will run from 9.30 am until 5.30 pm.

The festival is organised by the National Programme of Action for Children (NPA) in conjunction with the Gauteng Programme of Action for Children (GPAC), whose work is aimed at promoting and protecting the rights of children. The festival aims to highlight variety of children's issues including education, health care, child abuse while also promoting a culture of peace and non-violence.

Similar to the extremely successful Children's Day event of 1999, children attending this year's event will be entertained by the MTN Gladiators, music and television stars, superheroes and sports celebrities. There will also be access to an internet cafe, food stalls, a cultural parade and educational stalls from government departments.

The Festival Main Stage will feature appearances by

MTN Gladiators,
Sugarkids,
Comic superheroes,
Jabula Dancers, and
a performance by "A Lad In A Lamp" pantomime.

Musical acts will include

kwaito sensation Mzambiya,
Mdu, Ringo, Yvonne Chaka Chaka,
PJ Powers, and others.

Other events at Zoo Lake will include

a "Jam Alley" karaoke tent,
a mini flea market,
a children's orchestra & tea garden,
a "Kiddies Kingdom" (a secure area with characters & activities for small children),
a sport zone (from soccer to sack races),
jumping castles and
character walk-abouts.

Guests appearances will be made by presenters from

e-tv's Craz-e,
SABC's YO TV, and
TV3's Caz.

In addition, guest appearances will be made by stars from
Isidingo,
Generations,
Egoli,
Phat Joe and,
Bzzzz.

There will also be opportunities to interact with officials from various government departments who will have stalls showcasing their work, and to obtain information on the various government programmes on children e.g. the child care and foster care grants.
