On Monday 23 October, the Amnesty Committee of the TRC is to consider an amnesty application of Andries Van Heerden at the JISS Centre in Johannesburg for assaulting and torturing Solomon Mahlangu following a shootout with the police in the Goch Street incident on June 15 1977.
After the shootout, Manglangu was captured along with his comrade, Monty Motloung who was badly beaten to the extent that he was brain damaged. In his second application, Van Heerden is also applying for shooting and assaulting rioting students in Diepkloof in Soweto in 1976.
He has also applied for assaulting and ANC member Edward Mokati following a bomb blast at the Vanderbyl But Terminus during 1988. He is also going to be heard for his role in the bombing of a house which belonged to an unnamed Indian man in Springs in 1989. Together with Eugene De Kok, Leon Flores and Andreovitch (first name unknown) bomend the house at the request of the Springs Security Branch police.
Nicholas Vermeulen is expected to heard on Monday in the killing of two ANC members in Swaziland know as "Brown and George" in what was known as "Operation Vuil". Brigadier Schoon and others have already been heard in this incident.
In another matter scheduled for Monday, 23 October, is the amnesty application of Daniel Snyman for a shooting incident at Smith Street Johannesburg in 1990.
On Tuesday, the Committee will hear an amnesty application of Fredy Mugwena and ex MK member turned Askari for causing the arrest of MK members stabbing Nkosana (MK name) with a bottle in 1990. Another application for Tuesday is that two IFP members from Mzimhlophe Hostel in Soweto for a robbery. Phumokwakhe Myaka and Smanekwa Mhlongo are serving 12 years for robbing a bottle store in order to buy weapons to fight the ANC.
