OFFICIAL VISIT OF PROFFESSOR URAL LATYPOV, THE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER AND MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS

The Department of Foreign Affairs announces the arrival, this morning of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Prof. Ural Latypov who is paying an official visit to South Africa from 23 to 25 October 2000.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Latypov met with the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Alec Erwin on 23 October 2000 at 10h00 at the Presidential Guest House in Pretoria. Prof. Latypov and Minister Irwin discussed the establishment of a legal base for extending trade and economic co-operation between South Africa and Belarus and thereafter signed the Trade and Economic Co-operation Agreement

Deputy Prime Minister Latypov will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma for official consultations at 12h00, Tuesday 24 October 2000 at the Presidential Guest House. The two sides will discuss the enhancement of bilateral and multilateral relations. To this effect, the Ministers will consider a Protocol on Co-operation between the respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs that will provide opportunities for regular consultations.

Dr. Latypov will also pay a courtesy call on the Minister in the Presidency, Dr. Essop Pahad.
