CANDIDATE AND PARTY LISTS SUBMISSION DEADLINES

The INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSIONS' Gauteng Provincial Electoral Officer Mr Terry Tselane has again emphasised the need for parties to submit their candidates lists and the nomination of ward candidates by the 19th October 2000, at not later than 5.00 pm at their local municipal electoral offices (MEOs). A party contesting the election must have the following;

• Registered with the IEC as a political party;
• Given notice of its intention to contest the elections;
• Have submitted a party list containing the names of its candidates;
• Paid the required deposit;

The following documents must be attached to a nomination form when it is submitted;

• In case of an independent ward candidate, a prescribed form with the signatures of at least 50 voters, whose names appear on the segment of the voter's roll for any voting district in the ward.
• A prescribed acceptance of nomination signed by the ward candidate.
• A certified copy of the page of the candidate's identification document on which the candidate's photo, name and ID appear.

Mr Tselane stressed the need for all parties to adhere to the stipulated date and time to avoid exclusion from these forthcoming elections.
