The South African Government continues to closely monitor developments in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. It was, in particular, encouraged by the trends of the recent elections, which had many alleged shortcomings but, nevertheless, clearly reflected a desire on the part of the people of Yugoslavia to move towards genuine change and democracy.
It is therefore imperative that the will of the people be respected and that a political solution be found, without further violence, which will place Yugoslavia firmly on the road to democracy, stability and prosperity.
