STATEMENT REGARDING FINDINGS AGAINST FW DE KLERK

In response to the various press reports regarding the commission's proposed findings against the former State President F.W. de Klerk, in the former TRC's deputy chairperson Dr Alex Boraine's book "A COUNTRY UNMASKED", the commission wishes to place the following on record.

• On October 28 1998 the High Court in Cape Town granted an order in terms of which the commission undertook not to publish any of

its intended findings against Mr de Klerk in the report which was to be handed to the State President the next day.

• This matter is still subject to the court action and therefore sub judice.
• The fact that Dr Boraine has chosen to publish the proposed findings against Mr de Klerk is a matter over which the commission has no control.
