TRANSPORT CRISIS IN THE WESTERN CAPE

Issued by Ministry of Transport

31 August 2000

Minister of Transport, Dullah Omar, today welcomed the steadily decreasing tensions surrounding the transport crisis in the Western Cape.

Minister Omar has appealed to all role players to co-operate with the implementation of the package including legalisation, moratorium and restoring peace in the Western Cape and the rest of the country.

Now that many of the core issues are being addressed, it is up to Golden Arrow and the taxi organisations to resolve the outstanding issues, relating to weekend operations.

Minister Omar appeals to the two sides to meet with the mediators so that this matter can be resolved and the settlement implemented.
