Pretoria: We have learnt with deep sorrow of the passing away of Mr Bheki Robert Mkhize, the ANC Member of Parliament.
His untimely death is a great loss to the country and his family. Bheki Mkhize has come from the ranks of activists in the struggle for democracy, in South Africa. He has more specifically come from the ranks of democratic Trade Unionism, in particular Public Service unionism. He played a key role in the formation, and as first President, of NEHAWU.
As an elected Member of Parliament he continued his work in Public Service related matters as an active member of the Public Service and Administration Portfolio Committee. He also provided sound advice on collective bargaining matters. He has addressed Parliament on the progress of Department and challenges related to the transformation of the Public Service.
Recently he was amongst the members of the Committee that paid a visit to the State and Information Agency Head Offices, as a measure to evaluate progress by SITA.
The country has been robbed of a Member of Parliament whose contributions to the ideals of democracy and nation building will be sorely missed.
On behalf of the Ministry for Public Service and Administration, we express our sincere condolences to the family of Mr Mkhize. Lala Ngoxolo Khabazela.
Ms. Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi
Minister for Public Service and Administration
