APPOINTMENT OF MR BONGANI KHUMALO AS STRATEGIC ADVISOR IN THE PRESIDENCY

The presidency announces the appointment in the Presidency of Mr Bongani Khumalo as Strategic Advisor on Integrated Sustainable Rural Development and HIV/AIDS.
Mr Khumalo brings to the position an outstanding knowledge-base, excellent organisational and communication skills as well as wide experience on HIV/AIDS matters.
Mr Khumalo's responsibilities will include, amongst others:
- Assisting the Deputy President to formulate strategic and business plans including those for the Integrated Sustainable Rural Development Strategy (ISRDS) and the government's HIV/AIDS campaign.
- Assisting the Deputy President in setting rural development and HIV/AIDS performance targets and milestones in consultation with all relevant stakeholders, participants and contributors.
- Assisting the Presidency in establishing information systems-based co-ordination centres for resourcing, planning and monitoring both the Integrated Sustainable Rural Development Strategy (ISRDS) and the HIV/AIDS campaign.
- Assisting the Presidency in maintaining positive and productive stakeholder relations between the Presidency and Government on the one hand and all relevant stakeholders and partners in the areas of rural development and HIV/AIDS on the other.
- Assisting the Deputy President in ensuring effective functioning of the South African National Aids Council (SANAC).
Mr Khumalo will play a pivotal role in the tasks and the challenges that lie ahead with respect to these high-priority government programmes.
