ORGANISED LABOUR AND GOVERNMENT MEET TO ADDRESS CONCERNS AROUND NATIONAL FRAMEWORK AGREEMENT

19 July 2000

Minister Radebe announced that Government and organised labour have met today to address Organised Labour's concerns around the National Framework Agreement (NFA) for the restructuring of State Assets.

Both Government and Organised Labour reaffirmed their commitment to the NFA, and agreed to jointly address areas where the NFA was not being implemented properly.

The inconsistent application of the NFA was one of the reasons cited by COSATU which lead to their recent protest action.

Minister Radebe reiterated the importance of mechanisms such as the NFA, to ensure that effective communication and consultation takes place with our social partners on the restructuring of State Owned Enterprises. This is important as the restructuring process constitutes a critical activity in the current phase of the transformation of the South African economy.
