The Minister of Public Enterprises, Jeff Radebe, MP, is pleased to release the following statement:
Cabinet has approved the appointment of Mr Mafika Mkwanazi as the Managing Director designate of Transnet Ltd with immediate effect. The appointment follows the decision of the current MD Saki Macozoma not to make himself available when his contract expires at the end of March 2001. Messrs Macozoma and Mkwanazi will work together to ensure a smooth transition in the leadership of Transnet Ltd as it enters this critical period of restructuring.
The Boards of SAA (Pty) Ltd and Transnet Ltd respectively have endorsed the Minister's appointment of Mr Bheki Sibiya to succeed Mr Mkwanazi as Chairperson of the SAA Board with immediate effect.
The Minister wishes to express his gratitude to all concerned who continue to work together in the interests of the enterprises themselves and for the maximisation of shareholder interests. In particular he wishes to acknowledge the splendid contribution of Mr Macozoma and wishes Messrs Mkwanazi and Sibiya well in their new roles.
