9 July 2000
The fourth session of the Joint Bilateral Commission between South Africa and Egypt will be held in Pretoria from 19 to 21 July 2000 and will be hosted by the South African Minister for Foreign Affairs, Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. The Egyptian delegation, which will also contain a large business contingent, will be led by the Egyptian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Minister Amre Moussa.
The Joint Bilateral Commission between Egypt and South Africa was established in 1996, as a direct result of the good bilateral relations between the two countries. It is held annually, alternating between South Africa and Egypt. The aim of the Joint Bilateral Commission is to institutionalise the good relations that have been in existence between Egypt and South Africa since official relations were established in 1994.
To date nine bilateral agreements have been signed within the framework of the Joint Bilateral Commission with regard to co-operation in the fields of arts, culture, science, technology, trade, taxation and geoscience.
It is expected that numerous agreements will be signed at the fourth session in various sectors.
The fourth session of the Joint Bilateral Commission will coincide with an Egyptian week being held by the Egyptian Embassy at the Hilton Hotel in Johannesburg from 19 to 25 July 2000.
