PRESIDENT THABO MBEKI TO OFFICIALLY OPEN SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL STAND HALL

South African President Thabo Mbeki will officially open the SA National Stand in the Africa Hall on Friday, 2 June at 10h30. After delivering his speech, President Mbeki will light the Candle of Hope, which symbolises South Africa as 'a beacon of hope' to Africa and the rest of the world.

He is also expected to visit some neighbouring stands, including that of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.

All accredited members of the media are advised to be at the South African stand not later than 10h00.

Please take note that Mr. Mbeki will not hold a press conference or take any questions from the media.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mbeki will be in Berlin, Germany from 2-3 June attending the conference on 'Modern Governance in the 21st Century' hosted by German Chancellor Gerhard Schruder.
