Minister of Foreign Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma today, Thursday 11 May arrived in Sweden after rounding up her visit to Nigeria where she attended the OAU Ministerial Conference on Security Stability Development and Co-operation in Africa held in Abuja.
The Minister had an audience with President Olusegun Obasajo to deliver a message from President Thabo Mbeki and to exchange further ideas regarding the current situation in Zimbabwe. The Minister also held bilateral meetings with ambassadors of Sierra Leone and the Saharawi Republic where she was briefed of current developments in their perspective countries.
In Stockholm, the Minister held a bilateral meeting with her Swedish counterpart. Minister Anna Lindh to discuss among others the possible establishment of a SA-Sweden Binational Commission as part of efforts to consolidate bilateral relations between the two countries.
In this regard, recommendations will be made by the two minister to both President Thabo Mbeki and prime Minister Goran Persson on the framework, modalities and the necessary mechanism to be put into place to establish the binational commission.
Minister Dlamini-Zuma and Minister Lindh further exchanged ideas on regional development with specific reference to the situation in Zimbabwe.
The Minister had an occasion to visit a Youth and a Women Centre at the invitation of her counterpart. The Minister will depart Sweden on Friday 12 May for Finland and Copehagen on Saturday 13 May as part of her overall visit to the Scandinavian countries before joining President Thabo Mbeki in the UK and USA.
