GOVERNMENT TO APPLY "NO WORK, NO PAY" ON 10 MAY 2000

Statement by Minister for Public Service and Administration

The COSATU Public Service Unions: NEHAWU, SADTU and POPCRU have submitted a notice to Government, declaring their intention to embark on a stay away on Wednesday, 10 May 2000.

As Government, we reiterate that the principle of "no work, no pay" will be applied to all members of the Public Service who will participate in this action. This action is unprotected for all unions who did not serve the notice. Employees in the essential services may not participate in this action during their working hours.

All departments and provinces have been instructed to keep strict record of employees who will be absent from work on the day of stay away i.e. 10 May 2000.
