The Minister of Transport, Dullah Omar has called upon CATA, CODETA and The Golden Arrow Bus Company to resolve their dispute soon before government intervens. The Minister's call came shortly after renewed intimidation claims were made against the bus company.
"We wish to call upon all parties involved to settle this dispute in the interest of peace and in the interest of all commuters who have been affected by this dispute. This situation cannot be allowed to continue because violence doesn't have any place in the future of our public passenger transport operations", Minister Omar said.
The Minister also welcomed the Western Cape's ANC for their efforts to mediate in the dispute. Omar also warned against people who would use these incidents for their own personal gains and to also oppose the transformation of the taxi industry, particularly the recapitalisation process. He reaffirmed Government's commitment to the programme and indicated that any discontent with the programme should be raised in a way that will ensure that solutions are found.
