WORKSHOPS ON ANTI-CORRUPTION MEASURES TO BE HELD IN THE NORTHERN PROVINCE

Pretoria: The Public Service Commission (PSC) will be holding an anti-corruption workshop in the Northern Province on Tuesday the 11th of April 2000. These workshops are part of the PSC's anti-corruption campaign and gives effect to a resolution of the Anti-Corruption Summit held in April last year, which mandated PSC to lead, co-ordinate, manage and monitor National Anti-Corruption campain inthe public service.

The workshops, which have already been held in Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal, are aimed at preventing corruption and unethical behaviour in the public service. The workshops involve public service managers from provincial administrations and representatives of civil society.

The objectives of the workshops are as follows:

• To ensure the implementation of the resolutions of the Anti-Corruption Conference held last year, in the provinces.
• To promote the establishment of cross-sectoral forums to combat corruption, and co-ordinate anti-corruption activities between government and civil society.

Key issues to be discussed in the Northern Province workshop are:

• Implementing the resolutions of the national anti-corruption summit
• The regulatory framework of the public service
• Monitoring corruption
• Risk management
• The Protected Disclosures Bill
