DEPUTY MINISTER OF JUSTICE AND CONSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT TO ATTEND CONFERENCE IN SINGAPORE

We would like to announce that the Deputy Minister of Justice and Constittional Developmen, Ms Cheryl Gillwald, accompanied by Mr Hassen Ebrahim (Deputy Director General: Corporate Services) and Mr Willie Henegan (Secretary to the South African Law Society) have been invited by the Singapore Academy of Law to attend a Millennium Law Conference from 10th April 2000 to the 12th April 2000.

The focus of the conference will be the changes facing the legal fraternity in the new millennium. It aims to outline the globally-oriented 'road map' to guide the law and lawyers as they grapple with the issues of a knowledge-based economy and its impact on establishing legal infrastructure.

The conference will explore the following themes:

• Global trends in government policy, trade and economy.
• Developments in legal education, legal practice and law reform.
• Developments in finance and electronic banking.
• Trends in technology and the emergence of electronic commerce.
