President Mbeki expresses his profound sense of sadness and shock on the death of the founding farther of modern Tunisia and one of the foremost African leaders to champion the course of decolonisation in Africa, former president of Tunisia Mr Bourguiba. South Africa and its people and indeed the entire continent of Africa feels greatly indebted to the efforts of leaders such as Bourguiba who through their unflinching sacrifices have created a climate conducive for an African Renaissance to take root in our continent.
We owe it to leaders such as Bourguiba to ensure we do not falter on our irreversible march towards the renewal of our continent.
President Mbeki, the people and government of South Africa dip their banners in solemn memory for this great son of our continent and expresses his heartfelt condolences to president Ben Ali, family members and the Tunesian people.
