VISIT OF MR FELIPE PEREZ ROQUE, MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE REPUBLIC OF CUBA

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, Mr. Felipe Perez Roque, will pay an official visit to South Africa from 21 to 22 20 March 200000 at the invitation of the South African Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Minister Perez Roque and his delegation will be holding discussions with President Thabo Mbeki, former President Nelson Mandela, Minister Nkosasana Dlamini-Zuma, Minister Alec Erwin and Mr. Kgalema Mothantle, Secretary-General of the ANC.

Discussions will centre on the strengthening of bilateral relations and the focussed expanding of economic ties. An exchange of views on global issues as well as the forthcoming South Summit, which will be held in Havana in April, will also be discussed.

Minister Dlamini-Zuma and Minister Perez Roque will sign a Declaration of Intent on Cooperation between the Department of Foreign Affairs of South Africa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba.

After the signing ceremony of the Declaration of Intent on Cooperation between the Department of Foreign Affairs of South Africa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, a joint Media briefing by both Ministers is scheduled to take place, where-after Minister Perez Roque will hold a Press Conference.

The Premier of Gauteng, Mr. Mbazima Shilowa, will host Mr. Perez Roque to a working breakfast with the South African Business Community, which will further explore business opportunities between South Africa and Cuba.

During his stay in South Africa, Minister Perez Roque will also meet members of the Cuban community and Cuban doctors working in South Africa.
