13 March 2000
The Minister responsible for NYC, Dr Essop Pahad will officially open a planning conference to kick-start a project called Youth TechKnowledgy (YTech) which will be held at the ESKOM Megawatt Park Conference Centre in Sandton tomorrow, 14 March 2000 from 08h45 to 10h30.
This is a National Youth Commission (NYC) initiative in partnership with the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) youth organisations, universities and other stakeholders.
The aim of the Ytech project is to create an integrated youth network that will provide community and context-specific training and education to even isolated rural youth. It will also make the NYC's existing Youth Information Services directly available to most young women and men in the country.
According to the Youth Commissioner responsible for these services, Commissioner Max van der Wath, the network is unique in the region although models abroad have been taken into account in its conceptualisation.
All interested media should contact NYC Communications Officer, Tebogo Ramutloa on 082 497 8337 or 012-325 3702.
