10 March 2000
The National Youth Commission (NYC), in partnership with the Human Science Research Council (HSRC), youth organisations, universities and other stakeholders has organised an international planning conference to design Youth TechKnowledgy (YTech), a new network that to assist unemployed youth.
The Minister responsible for NYC, Dr Essop Pahad, will officially open the conference to be held at the ESKOM Megawatt Park Conference Centre in Sandton, on 14 March 2000 from 08h45 to 10h30.
The aim of the YTech project is to create an integrated youth network that will provide community-and-context-specific training and education to even isolated rural youth. It will also make the NYC's existing Youth Information Services directly available to most young women and men in the country.
According to the Youth Commissioner responsible for these services, Commissioner Max van der Wath, the network is unique in the region, although models abroad have been taken into account in its conceptualisation.
