The Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism Mohammed Valli Moosa today announced that Cabinet had approved the appointment of two top officials in the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism.
Dr Crispian Olver has been appointed Director General of the Department. Dr Olver, who has been the Acting Director General if the Department since November last year, was formerly the Deputy Director responsible for local government in the Department of Provincial and Local Government. Prior to that he worked from June 1994 to March 1996 in the Reconstruction and Development Programme in the Office of the President as a Director of Policy Planning. He has a medical degree from the University of Cape Town.
Dr Nombasa Tsengwa has been appointed Deputy Director: Environmental Quality and Information Management. She is formerly the corporate manager of Biotechnology, Innovation and Futures (BIF) at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). She has a Ph.D. in Agronomy for the University of Maryland, a MSc in Botany from the Eastern Illinois and an Honours degree in Botany from the University of the Western Cape. She currently serves on the Water Research Commission Advisory Board and the South African Council for Essential Community Services.
