The Gauteng Department of Education's (GDE) Education Action Zones Unit has uncovered a well-orchestrated syndicate that allegedly produces fraudulent performance reports for learners.
This syndicate allegedly involves a school's Head of the Department, 2 Educators, an administrative person and a member of the public. The syndicate is linked with Lethukuthula High School in Katlegong .
The South African Police have already arrested a member of the public who has confessed and displayed all the facilities that is utilised to fabricate reports for learners.
An investigation has been instituted against Mrs. Sylvia Ndukuhlu, Mr. Themba Makhathini, Mr. Mandla Mbatha, and Mrs. Margaret Mositeng. All these individuals, but a member of the public, work at Lethukuthula High School. The allegations being investigated respectively involve,
Should these investigations prove to be true a disciplinary process will be instituted, and MEC says further charges will be laid with the South African Police Services (SAPS). Currently, the suspects have been notified with the intention to suspend them. The MEC believes that there are still more schools involved and investigations will continue.
The MEC has congratulated the GDE Education Action Zones Unit for their good work and urged them to continue such work.
