THE HIGH COURT RULING ON MR BONI'S APPLICATION FOR A VOLUNTARY SEVERANCE PACKAGE BY MR BONI

The Department of Foreign Affairs welcomes the dismissal this morning of the application brought in the Pretoria High Court by Mr Boni against the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

A voluntary severance package is not a pension, but a discretionary benefit granted for the purposes of freeing up a post. Mr Boni's circumstances did not justify the granting of such a package.

We reiterate our confidence in the justice system and trust that Mr Boni will respect the court's decision.
