All critical sectors in South Africa are still reporting that they experienced no Y2K related problems 36 hours into the Year 2000.

The reports reflect the status of critical sectors at 12h00, South African time.

Electricity:
No reports of abnormal activity

Banking and Finance:
The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) and Banking Council have announced that all 57 banks registered with the SARB reported that all systems are operating normally.

Telecommunications:
No reports of abnormal activity.

Water:
No reports of abnormal activity

Health:
Reports from all nine provincial health departments indicated a smooth transition to the Year 2000, according to Minister of Health Manto Tshabalala Msimang. No reports of abnormal activity in private hospitals.

Transport:
No reports of abnormal activity.

Government services:
No reports of abnormal activity

The Y2K Centre's rollover activities will stop operating 24 hours on January 3 2000 at 12h00. Monitoring of Y2K events in South Africa will revert to normal business hours 8h00 to 16h30 beginning January 4.

Key staff will be on stand-by and reachable via mobile phone until January 4:

The public information line -086-121-2000 -shall continue operating 24 hours until January 4 2000. Thereafter, the line shall operate normal business hours from 8h00 to 16h00, Monday through Friday.

All information and updates will be available on Y2K Centre's website at www.y2k.org.za.

The centre will update this report 10h00 on January 4 through a media statement.
