No reports of Y2K-related incidents, says South Africa's National Year 2000 Decision Support Centre Six out of six sectors monitored in South Africa report no Y2K-related interruptions, said Feriel Bowers of the National Year 2000 Decision Support Centre.
"We are heartened by the positive reports thus far from critical sectors and essential services," Bowers says. "None reported any Y2K-related problems."
The six critical sectors are transport, health and emergency services, telecommunications, finance, water, and electricity. The Banking sector Y2K response centre said initial reports indicate ATMs and card services are not affected by Y2K.
Major hospitals and clinics reported no Y2K problems and are operating normally, according to the Department of Health. Telecommunications and Transportation sectors, as well as Water and electricity utilities reported no Y2K problems.
The Department of Agriculture said initial reports indicated no interruptions or problems with Y2K at this stage.
The South African Post Office reported no Y2K problems. The Y2K Centre will continue to monitor critical sectors and will provide a full report by 03h00 South Africa time.
