SOUTH AFRICA SIGNS THE INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION FOR THE SUPPRESSION OF TERRORIST BOMBINGS.

Ambassador Kumalo, Permanent Representative of South Africa to the United Nations, in New York today (21 December 1999) signed the International Convention for the Suppression of Terrorist Bombings on behalf of the Government of the Republic of South Africa. The purpose of the Convention is to criminalise acts of terrorist bombings and in so doing further strengthen the international legal framework for combating and eliminating international terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. "South Africa’s signature of this important Convention further emphasises our willingness to cooperate with the international community in eliminating the scourge of international terrorism", Ambassador Kumalo said.
