NORTH WEST EXECUTIVE COUNCIL DECISIONS

In its regular meeting this week the North West Executive Council (Exco) has unanimously agree to the appointment of Dr Manana Bakane-Tuoane as the Acting Provincial Director General following the recent deployment of the former Director General Prof Job Tebogo Mokgoro to the South African Management Development Institute (SAMDI).

Dr Bakane-Tuoane has been the Deputy Director General for the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Environment. She will be Acting Director General until the processes of appointing the new Director General have been concluded.

The Executive Council further received a report on progress with regard to the implementation of the Provincial Job Summit agreements. Exco resolved to mandate the Technical Committee on the Job Summit to immediately ensure implementation of identified projects requiring not more than R500 000.

It was further agreed that the Provincial Government will host an International Investors Conference in the year 2000 to mobilise funds for Job Summit projects requiring more than R500 000. The envisaged conference will be linked to the Platinum Spatial Development Initiative.

Exco also resolved to declare the Provincial Legislature and all other public buildings in the North West province, gun-free zones in terms of Act 53 of 1985. The Department of Provincial Safety and Liaison will ensure that members of the SAPS are informed accordingly and the implementation of this decision is monitored. The decision is aimed at supporting the National Crime Prevention Strategy.
