WORLD AIDS DAY - 1 DECEMBER 1999

30 November 1999

The Minister of Transport, Dullah Omar, will be hosting a big Aids Awareness Concert at the Johannesburg Park Station on 01 December 1999 (World Aids Day). This function will be organised by the South African Rail Commuter Corporation (SARCC) in conjunction with Intersite.

Other partners will be Spoornet and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) in a project set to have a far-reaching effect on the fight against HIV/Aids. This partnership against HIV/Aids initiative is a further step in the Department of Transport's pledge to support President Thabo Mbeki's on-going campaign against the spread of Aids.

Minister Omar will put his stamp of support, when signing an all white Love Life Love Train that will be parked on one of the platforms. The Love Train forms part of Love Life`s on going campaign to raise HIV/Aids awareness amongst the youth. Although Park Station is the focus, SARCC stations in Cape Town and Berea, Durban will also host similar activities, while other stations across the country will act as distribution points for flyers and free condoms.
