INVITATION: LAUNCH OF GOVERNMENT'S REVIEW OF PROGRESS REGARDING THE SADC DECLARATION OF NO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
The National Co-ordinating Committee, under the auspices of the Presidency and the Department of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, invites you to attend a Media Breakfast Launch of South Africa's 1999 Sixteen (16) Days of activism on No Violence Against Campaign.
The purpose of this launch is to initiate the second anniversary of the annual 16-day campaign of No Violence Against Women. It will also highlight South Africa's commitment to the implementation of the SADC Addendum on the Prevention and Eradication of Violence Against Women and Children. The planning process ensuing from the launch will further affirm South Africa's proactive move towards the development of programmes with measurable outcomes.
The launch will also begin the process that will result in an integrated five-year plan on Government's programmes that will address problems related to gender-based violence.
The 1999 campaign seeks to encourage men's participation regarding the conceptualisation and implementation of programmes. Towards the realisation of this objective, a Men's Forum is launched to monitor and guide the programme over time.
Speakers will include the Deputy Minister of Justice, C. Gillwald who will present a review of the objectives for the 16-Day Campaign. The Commission on Gender Equality will be represented by. P. Nzimande, who will emphase the need for an integrated approach to gender-related violence. Minister in the Presidency, E. Pahad will also speak on an integrated plan of action on No Violence Against Women.
