On behalf of government, I would like to express our extreme delight that the SAA partnership with SwissAir is now firmly cemented. This partnership will add further value to our restructuring objective of making State Owned Enterprises(SOEs) centres of excellence and globally competitive.
We look forward to higher standards of service delivery and trust that the exceptional skills and technology that SwissAir brings to our country will be transferred and put to the benefit of all South Africans particularly those that have been historically disadvantaged.
The decision last week by the EU Competition Commission is also a welcome signal and comes at an opportune time when there is a tremendous amount of interest in strengthening trade ties between South Africa and Europe.
Finally, I want to congratulate the Board and Management of Transnet on the successful conclusion of this deal and want to assure them of my continued support in the efforts to restructure Transnet to the best interest of the shareholders and the people of South Africa.
