SADC AFRICAN RENAISSANCE CONFERENCE: 16 AND 17 NOVEMBER 1999: GALLAGHER ESTATE, MIDRAND

The Department of Provincial and Local Government and Department of Justice will be co-hosting an African Renaissance Conference during which Africa’s experience regarding the progress to constitutionalism and democracy over the past 40 years will be shared.

In addition to the above, the overarching objective of the Conference is to discuss possible mechanisms on regional constitutional co-operation and to foster, strengthen and consolidate long-standing historical, social and cultural affinities and to promote the natural links among the peoples of the region.

President Chisano, SADC Cabinet Ministers of the SADC countries, and various experts will deliver papers on the above-mentioned topics and report on the position and perspective of his/her country.

Venue and time: The Auditorium, Gallagher Estates, Midrand from 09:00 to 17:30 on 16 November 1999 and from 09:00 to 16:00 on 17 November.

Media involvement: All of the proceedings will be open to the media. Representatives of the media who will not be able to attend throughout are invited to attend the opening session on the first day and the closure on the second day.

A joint media briefing by Ministers of the SADC Countries on the outcome of the conference will be held at 16:15 on 17 November.
