The Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism Mohammed Valli Moosa today sent his condolences to the families and the victims of the crash outside Middelburg in Mpumalanga at the weekend.
Four German tourists died and three were injured (including the South African driver/guide of the tour party). According to preliminary reports the mini-bus crashed after a tyre burst.
Minister Moosa urged all tour company operators to insist that their clients wear seatbelts because many deaths on our roads could be avoided if the driver and passengers wore their seatbelts. Even though there is currently no law compelling operators of tourist coaches and vehicles to fit seatbelts in the rear seats of their vehicles, Minister Moosa urged them to fit seatbelts as this will ensure the safety of their passengers.
