The Minister of Transport, Dullah Omar welcomes the efforts taken by the MEC of Transport in Kwazulu-Natal, Sbu Ndebele together will all taxi associations in the area to resolve recent disputes which claimed 11 lives and injuring 20 others.
"I wish to commend the steps taken to normalise the situation and to find solutions to these problems. In addition, I wish to call upon every association in the area to commit themselves to peace. We can no lower afford to allow business to continue at the expense of innocent passengers", the Minister said.
"As government both national and provincial, we remain committed in finding long-lasting solutions to the taxi violence as we are currently regulating and formalising the taxi industry." The Minister will be addressing an Editors Forum in Durban tomorrow and another one in Cape Town on Tuesday. The date for the Johannesburg Editors Forum will be announced in due course.
