Government experts from 100 countries and almost all NGOs specialising in wildlife and ecosystem conservation are meeting for the first time in South Africa to review the 20-year progress of the international Convention of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS/Bonn Convention). The conference will also decide on a comprehensive work programme for the coming five years.
The Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Valli Moosa, will open the conference at 4pm on Saturday 6 November 1999 at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West (outside Cape Town). Other speakers include the Netherlands State Secretary for Agriculture, Nature Management and Fisheries, the German Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety as well as NGO representatives.
The conference runs for one week.
