The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development will be hosting a Sexual Offence Forum in Cape Town 20 - 21 January 2000. The Department has prioritised the need to promote and develop a coherent justice system that is effective, responsive and se nsitive to all its users - especially vulnerable groups like women and children.
The forum will - among other matters - focus on the existing legal framework on sexual offences, review bail and sentencing policy, investigate the roll-out of sexual offences courts and the training needs of officers working in our courts.
The Department will be inviting representatives from the various sectors to attend the event - which will be sponsored by the Embassy of Sweden. The ultimate objective of the exercise is to lay the foundation for the development of an integrated National A ction and Implementation Plan on Sexual Offences.
