PRESS RELEASE BY THE MEC: FINANCE & ECONOMIC AFFAIRS, MR JABU MOLEKETI

Issued by: Gauteng Provincial Government

RECOMMENDATIONS ON BANKING SERVICES TENDER

The awarding of the Gauteng Provincial Banking tender reaches its final stages as the department of Finance and Economic Affairs and the Gauteng Provincial Tender today tabled their recommendations of the preferred bank to the Finance and Economic Affairs Standing Committee of the Gauteng Legislature. The Provincial Exchequer Act requires that the MEC award the contract after consultation with the Standing Committee.

This marks the penultimate step in the intensive process that has been conducted over the past six months. It began with the issue of calls for tenders, an intensive technical evaluation of the bids received and public hearings at which the banks that responded to the tender, were questioned on a wide range of issues. The department thereafter made its final recommendations to the Tender Board and the joint recommendation forwarded to the Standing Committee.

The bids were evaluated on the following criteria:

Cost of services and technical abilities carried 60% of the scoring with the remaining criteria accounting for 40%.

Standard Bank has been recommended as the preferred bidder subject to the conclusion of a contract to the Standing Committee. Once the views of the Standing Committee have been conveyed to the MEC, the final announcement will be made.
