SADC ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS MINISTERS IN CAPE TOWN FOR HISTORIC MEETING

The first meeting of the Environmental Minister of the Southern African Development Community will take place on Friday in Cape Town.

The Ministers will be discussing an integrated SADC position of international conventions on desertification, climate change and the movement of waste and waste management as well as capacity building and transfrontier parks.

Ministers of Environment from Angola, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe will be attending. Officials will represent Botswana and the Seychelles. It is not know if the DRC will be represented.

The meeting will be opened by the host country Minister Valli Moosa and the convening country, the Minister of the Environment from Lesotho Minister M Lepono and will be open to the media.
