The Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism has not received a formal application from Eskom to build a nuclear reactor at Koeberg.
In response to media inquiries, Minister Mohammed Valli Moosa said that Eskom would have to apply to his Department in terms of the Section 22 of the Environmental Conservation Act (Act 73 of 1989) for an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the plan for their proposed power station as reported in the media. In the absence of a formal application, he had no comment on Eskom’s plan.
