Foreign Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Anthony Mongalo as the next South African Ambassador to Rome, Italy. He will take up his appointment later this month.
Mr Anthony Le Clerk Kgwadu Mongalo (63) was responsible for setting up the ANC Office in Italy where he served as Chief Representative between 1970 - 1978. He then opened the ANC office in Berlin and served as its head until March 1986. He was elected to the National Executive Committee of the ANC in 1985 and also worked as the Secretary for Presidential Affairs. Mr Mongalo joined the Department of Foreign Affairs during February 1995 as Chief Director for North Africa and the Middle East. During September 1995, he was promoted to Deputy Director-General : Africa. He currently serves as Deputy Director-General : Americas and Europe.
He holds an UED from Fort Hare, a B.Sc. degree from Rhodes University (Fort Hare) and a M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the Baku Institute for Oil and Chemistry, USSR. He has also attended a course at the British Civil Service College in London and a Management Course run by Harvard University.
Mr Mongalo is married and has two sons.
