THIRD SOUTHERN AFRICA INTERNATIONAL DIALOGUE

Theme:"Economic empowerment through Smart Partnership". 3rd to 6th October 1999, Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

The 3rd Southern Africa International Dialogue (SAID'99) on the theme "Economic Empowerment through Smart Partnership". will be held at Elephant Hills Inter-Continental Hotel in Victoria Falls from 3 to 6 October 1999.

This continues the process that began in 1997 when the Smart Partnership philosophy was introduced to the region through the 1st Southern Africa International Dialogue that was held at Kasane in Botswana and was further strengthened by the 2nd Southern Africa International Dialogue that was held in 1998 at Swakopmund in Namibia.

SAID'99 is co-organised by Government, Business and Labour leaders of the fourteen Southern Africa countries and Uganda with assistance from the Commonwealth Partnership for Technology Management Limited, an organisation that was created by Commonwealth Heads of Government in 1995 to facilitate innovative partnerships among government, business and labour in Commonwealth countries and assist them to exploit the opportunities offered by the new global market through a series of national, regional and international Smart Partnership Dialogues.

SAID'99 is part of that series of Dialogue and complements international and other regional Dialogues, namely: the Langkawi International Dialogue (LID); the Barbados International Dialogue (BID); and the Petra International Dialogue. The 3rd Southern Africa International Dialogue will also carry forward the new initiatives that were launched at the 4th Langkawi International Dialogue that was held from 25 to 28 June 1999 in Malaysia, namely; the Social Issues Group comprising First Ladies of participating countries, Dialogue with the Media and the Business Smart Partnership Club.

SAID'99 will be attended by 15 Heads of State and Government as well as 400 participants from both the public and private sectors in SADC countries as well as Barbados, Cyprus, Dominica, France, Ghana, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Uganda, United Kingdom and the United States of America.
