STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTER OF TRANSPORT, DULLAH OMAR: OFFICIAL VISIT BY THE NETHERLANDS MINISTER OF TRANSPORT, PUBLIC WORKS & WATER MANAGEMENT, MRS T NETELENBOS

The Minister of Transport, Dullah Omar will be hosting The Netherlands Minister of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, Mrs Tineke Netelenbos from 26 September - 02 October 1999. Minister Netelenbos will be accompanied to South Africa by a strong delegation of more than 50 MD's and CEO's of companies and organisations from the Netherlands.

The two Ministers will have bilateral meetings, attend seminars and workshops, and conduct some field trips around the country. In addition, South African companies operating in the Transport sector, Construction and Engineering, ITC/Telecommunications and Water Affairs have been invited to participate in the programme.

Minister Omar and Minister Netelenbos will open a two-day workshop on Road Traffic Safety in Pretoria to be held on 27 and 28 September. This workshop comes shortly after a horrific crash involving an InterCape Bus and a truck on the N1 between Prince Albert and Laingsburg on Wednesday morning where 14 people were killed and more than 30 injured.

Both Ministers will also open an equally important Seminar termed ?Ports for the Future' to be held in Pretoria on 28 September and in Durban on 29 September.

During the course of her visit, Minister Netelenbos will also pay courtesy visits to the Minister of Water Affairs and Forestry, Ronnie Kasrils; Minister Public Enterprises, Jeff Radebe and Minister of Communications, Ivy Matsepe- Casaburri.
