The Minister of Transport, Dullah Omar extends his condolences to the families and friends of the 14 people killed in the crash involving an InterCape Bus and a truck on the N1 between Prince Albert and Laingsburg early this morning. "I also wish to convey my heartfelt sympathy to those injured and wish them a speedy recovery", Minister Omar said.
"Many innocent people are losing their lives through negligence and recklessness that is prevalent on our country's roads. I want to appeal to drivers and other road users to respect and obey traffic laws and exercising extra caution and tolerance on the road", the Minister added.
"Government has initiated the Arrive Alive Road Safety Campaign with an intention of curbing the carnage on our roads. In this specific case I also, am awaiting the full report from the MEC for Transport in the Western Cape, Mr Piet Meyer, which will hopefully give more insight into why the crash occurred."
