Issued by: Office of the Presidency

RE: MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE

It is with a deep sense of sadness that we learned of the passing away of one of the unsung heroes of South Africa, Prince Mcwayizeni Ka Dinizulu.

On behalf of the Government and the people of South Africa, allow me to extend our heartfelt condolences to His Majesty, King Goodwill Zwelithini, Umndlunkulu, the wife and family of Prince Mcwayizeni, the Amakhosi and people of Kwazulu-Natal.

Prince Mcwayizeni was the custodian of Kingship when King Zwelithini was still a child. Through his wise leadership and political acumen, he ensured the seamless transfer of traditional authority and in the process contributed immeasurably to maintaining the integrity of the Royal family and the cultural heritage of the Zulu nation.

Throughout his life, Prince Mcwayizeni was active in the liberation struggle. History tells us that Prince Mcwayizeni played a unifying role and especially during turbulent times in Kwazulu-Natal. Through his unassuming, yet decisive leadership he was able to lay the foundations of lasting peace in the Province. He has left a legacy that continues to serve as an inspiring example to all South Africans of political tolerance and the managing of political tensions. Prince Mcwayizeni takes his place among those exalted sons of South Africa, who have made an exceptional contribution to lasting peace in our land.

At this moment of grief we share the pain and sadness that has been brought upon the Zulu Nation by the loss of such a senior and important member of the Royal family. We share the pain because Prince Mcwayizeni has a special place in our hearts.
