The Amnesty Committee today has granted amnesty to a member of the ANC and Umkhonto WeSizwe, Amos Fish Mahlasela.
Mahlasela applied for amnesty for killing for killing Thomas Mangane, allegedly a police informer, and for being in possession of 2 handgrenades, 2 detonators and 1 Marakov pistol with ammunition.
The Committee found that Mahlasela has complied with the requirements of the Act that of full disclosure and political objective. The applicant went to Mangane's home at Mbuzi on January, 1990 shot and killed him.
Mahlasela said, Mangane was spying on the activities of the MK as he was a police informer. Albert Mangane, the son of the deceased was declared as a victim and referred to the Reparations and Rehabilitation Committee.
Also granted amnesty was Lawrence Maplanga for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and magazines.
