The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma who has over the past three days, been in negotiations with the leadership of Uganda, Rwanda and the RCD, on the peace initiatives in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, returned to South Africa this morning.
In her meetings with Dr Emille Ilunga and the leadership of the RCD, Dr Zuma got a commitment that they would consult on the SADC proposals with all the founding members and the result thereof communicated to Zambia, SADC, the OAU and South Africa later this afternoon.
South Africa's contribution in this process has been to re-inforce efforts by Uganda and Rwanda in urging the founder members of RCD to accept the proposal that was agreed to in Maputo by the SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government.
The SADC Summit proposed that all founding members of the RCD be persuaded to sign the cease-fire, thus kick-starting the full implementation of the agreement.
