THE THIRD CLUSTER OF DE KOCK AMNESTY HEARINGS TO RESUME

The Third Cluster on the amnesty hearings of Eugene De Kock and other sixteen former security policemen will resume on Monday August 16 at the Idasa Centre in Pretoria and finish in Durban on September 3.

In the first matter, Johannes Swart, Ben Burger van Zyl and Johannes Hannekom have applied for the killing of Dilon Moses Mayisa, Sibusiso Mbatha and Mazunka Moyo when they tried to rob Carousel Casino near Hammanskraal in February 1992. The deceased were all from Alexandra township near Johannesburg. De Kock is only implicated in this matter.

In the second matter, Eugene De Kock, Johannes Swart, Rolf Dieter Gevers, Willem Nortje, Johannes Hannekom, Ben Burger van Zyl, Deon Gouws and Kobus Klopper are seeking amnesty for ambushing and killing four suspected robbers in Nelspruit in March 1992.

Those killed in the Nelspruit incident, are Khona Gabela, Lawrence Nyarenda, Glenyk Masilo Mama and Oscar Mxolisi Ntshwatha. Tisetso Leballo, who was a personal bodyguard to Winnie Madikizela Mandela and was part of the Nelspruit group, was later killed that same night at Penge Mine near Burgersfort by other Vlakplaas members.

Applicants for the killing of Tisetso Leballo are Johannes Swart, Rolf Dieter Gevers, Eugene de Kock, Willem Nortje, Dawid Brits, Nicholaas Vermeulen and Kobus Klopper.

In the Durban matter, Willem Nortje, Isak Bosch, Nicholas Vermeulen will appear before the Amnesty Committee for killing UDF activists in Chersterville near Durban on June 1986.

The three applicants together with some Askaris were trying to infiltrate an ANC Unit led by Charles Ndaba, when they became involved in a shootout with a group of comrades at a meeting in town. About 4 people were killed in the incident.

Implicated in this matter are Askaris, Aubrey Mngadi, Jeff Bosigo, Samuel Magage, W/O Koole, Virginia Shosa, Eric Sefadi and Simon Radebe. Also implicated is Eugene De Kock and Andy Taylor.
